What People Do: A New Beginning
Welcome—and thank you for being here.
This site is the digital home of my photography, but more than that, it’s a quiet invitation into the world I’m capturing: one shaped by markets, street corners, working hands, side glances, silent laughter, and people simply being.
I’m Steve Fitzwater, a photographer based in Nottinghamshire, specialising in black and white images that document everyday human life. That might mean a street vendor passing change, a stranger holding tulips, or a quiet moment between friends caught mid-conversation.
My style leans toward the candid, the unposed, and the subtly poetic. I want to photograph not just people, but how they exist in their ordinary—and often extraordinary—routines.
Why “What People Do”?
The phrase isn’t just a tagline; it’s the heart of this entire site. It shapes my personal street photography and the commissions I’m starting to offer to small businesses and individuals who want their stories told with honesty and heart.
A Drifting Journey
This project is also part of a wider life shift. I’m slowly transitioning away from a structured working life toward something more creative, self-led, and energy-conscious. Photography is my main boat—anchored in curiosity, fuelled by walking, watching, and gently responding to the world around me.
What to Expect
In the months ahead, this blog will be a space for:
• Photo essays and visual stories
• Behind-the-scenes looks at street shoots and market days
• Honest reflections on the creative life and what it means to work slowly, with purpose
Sometimes structured, sometimes drifting—always sincere.
Thanks for stepping aboard.
Let’s see where this goes.
